San Jose State University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communications hosted their 8th annual PR Day on November 21, 2011 from noon to4:30 p.m. at the Student Union. More than 120 students attended, making this year’s PR Day very successful compared to previous years.
“Be a Self-Starter, there is never a certain path you take when being in the Public Relations, Marketing, or Advertising field,” said Rachel Meis, the CEO of Cate Mowel Communications. “It is all about finding what you are passionate about and making it a career.”
After the main guest speaker, students were then allowed to attend two out of the three panels regarding entertainment, social media, and how to get a job in this economy. To end PR Day, a job and internship fair preceded with companies such as LiveNation, Weber Shandwick, and Edelman Digital networked with the public relations students. In addition, raffle prizes were given out such as P.F. Chang’s and Maggiano’s gift certificates while the grand prize was a five-day loan for a 2012 Chevy Sonic.
